Dancing with the stars in the Hub City

The fourth installment of the Atlantic Dance Festival will bring exciting artists to Moncton for performances and workshop opportunities
Even though technical dance terms might be foreign to some, everyone is able to admit to some degree of dancing in their life.
Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or professional dancer, the 2008 Atlantic Dance Festival has something for you. And for those whose dancing ability only stretches out to the appreciation of the art, there's something for you too.
The Atlantic Dance Festival will be taking place in Moncton from Aug. 8 to 10.
"The festival is to celebrate the art of dance," explains DanceEncore's Artistic Director's assistant, Julie Goguen. "There aren't a whole lot of festivals in Canada, so it's a big thing to be able to host such a big dance event in Atlantic Canada."
"The festival, instead of a competition, is a chance to get artists from all over to come and perform in Moncton," she adds.
"We try to focus on Atlantic artists as much as we can, but we also try to get people from around Canada, and also from around the world too."
The festival is celebrating it's fourth year this summer, and Julie explains they are excited because they can see the growth in the festival over the past four years.
"It is finally getting to the point where people know about it a bit more, it just keeps getting better and better," she says. "We have high hopes for the future and are excited to see where it is going to go."
The Festival has events planned for the entire weekend.
"The point of the festival is to get everyone involved - both dancers and non-dancers," explains Julie.
There will be dance performances by dancers of all levels throughout the city during the weekend.
"We have some shows planned at the Théâtre L'Escaouette, but also at the Moncton Market for Saturday morning, and also downtown Moncton," explains Julie.
Louise Lecavalier, known for her work with internationally acclaimed Montreal dance company, La La La Human Steps, will kick off this year's festivities on Opening Night at Théâtre L'Escaouette at 8 p.m.
This is Louise's first time in the Atlantic provinces, and her only performance will be during the opening night festivities.
The Gala Evening, which will be also held at L'Escaouette Theatre on Aug. 9, will showcase some of Canada's top dancers, including breakdancer duo Crazy Smooth & Melly Mel, and young electrifying step dancer Stephanie Cadman.
By popular demand, after sweeping the public by storm during last year's Festival, the famous dancers of the hit TV series, Le Match des Étoiles, Tomasz Pogozelki and Caroline Gervais will also perform.
A new addition to the Festival this year includes a Master Class for experienced dancers with Louise Lecavalier and a special week-long Breakdance workshop with Yvon Soglo, (B-Boy Crazy Smooth) open to everyone wishing to learn more about breakdancing.
"We have a lot of workshops planned so that dancers of all levels can find something for them during the festival," says Julie.
If you are interested in getting more information about the festival you can contact Julie at 855-0998.
"We hope to see lots of people out to participate," she says. "Whether that's to watch the shows or to participate in the workshops."
