New artist featured at Sandstones

Sandstones Gallery will host a vernissage for artist Ginette Henri of Moncton on Aug. 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The exhibit of her work will continue will continue into early September at the gallery.
Ginette began her interest in the arts and jewelry as a child. She loved working on odd bits of chains she found around the house. Later in life she discovered the amazing possibilities metals offered. This grew into her current working medium.
Over the years, she has forged her own style, and created many unique pieces for both show and sale. In 1992, her necklace "Let's Twist Again" was featured at numerous galleries across Canada.
Her most recent creations, "Flowers in Time" are featured at Sandstones Gallery. They are created by focusing on the stones first, then drawing a design around them. She uses copper foil, stainless steel and wires of brass to bring it to life.
Once the look of the piece has been established, she then fuses it together onto a smoky Plexiglas panel using a technique she invented.
Some of the other featured works at the gallery include wooden bowls by Rick Gallant, stained glass pieces by Kilby McLafferty, textured paintings by Terri Chalk, pottery by Sylvia Bell, hand-molded beeswax candles by Kurt and Katharina Zeltner, framed photographs by Louis Gagné, and hand-carved alabaster bowls and jewelry by Hans Durstling.
Sandstones is located on the ground floor of the Blue Cross Centre, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays by appointment. Visit the website at www.sandstones.ca for more information.
