The national slo-pitch champions in four different adult divisions will be crowned this weekend in Moncton.

"The Maritimes are very well represented," says Sam. "We have very high expectations for Moncton."

The Slo-Pitch Nationals happen every two years in a variety of locations. This year, Moncton will host four different divisions: Women's C; Men's C; Men's 40C and Coed E division. In total, there are just over 60 teams attending.

Sam expects the Maritimes to be among the top four teams in the Men's C division, and he expects the Moncton Women's C team win their division.

This is the third consecutive tournament that Moncton has bid on and won divisions. While Sam is happy with the tournaments Moncton hosts, he is hoping it will be bigger and better in 2010.

"The city is making improvements to complexes which will improve our hosting locations and allow us to compete with bigger divisions," Sam explains.

The National Championships run from July 31 to August 4. Most of the tournament will be taking place at the CN Sportsplex, but activities will also be happening at other locations. Sam ensures that everyone will enjoy themselves on and off the field, as there are many events going on to occupy fans and competitors.

"There's a kick-off golf tournament, a meet and greet, a karaoke night, and that's just to name a few," says Sam. Teams and Umpires from all around Canada will be present at the National Championships.

Sam says it's always exciting to have teams from different areas of Canada at a tournament, but it's extra special to have umpires from around the nation.

"It provides a good environment where they're able to learn off each other," he says. "All the events are free-entry and open to the public: everyone is encouraged to come out and show support for the local teams."
