Carole Murphy's recent award from the Untied Way of Greater Moncton and South East New Brunswick is more than just a piece of paper

Last week, at the United Way of Greater Moncton and South East New Brunswick's Campaign 2008 Kick-off, two new community awards were given.
The Kim Halliday Award is named in honour of the former Executive Director, who passed away in 2007, and celebrates individuals who make a positive difference in the lives of young people. It is given in two categroies: adult and youth.
Carole Murphy, who currently works as the Community Schools Co-ordinator for School District 2, was selected as the first adult recipient of the award, for her work with many local community organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Vitality Moncton, the YMCA and the United Way's Youth First Committee.
The United Way's motto is 'Inspire. Build. Change.', and Carole has done all three with her continued involvement with these organizations.
She inspires the community around her to step up and give their time to youth through her work with Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a member of the local organization's board of directors, Carole and the rest of the team are able to help ensure the programs they offer can continue into the future.
She helps to build a healthier community with her work with Vitality Moncton and at the YMCA, encouraging all citizens to get active. Working to ensure that access to healthy living isn't limited to those who can afford it makes the whole city a better place in which to live.
Finally, she works to change the community by empowering our young people through her work with the Youth First Committee. This committee works to make our communities a positive place for youth, in part by training those who work with young people to recognize and develop the assets necessary to healthy development.
Carole deserves this award, and all of the recognition that comes with it. If you get the opportunity to meet this strong female role model and leader at work, school or through one of her volunteer commitments, take the time to congratulate her.
