Planning for the big day, months before it happens

Now that summer weddings are over couples are either preparing for a fall wedding or starting to plan for next year. Everybody wants that perfect fairy tale wedding from the dress to the flowers to the food and so on.

There are even books out to guide you through the months prior to the wedding on what to do and when to do it so there is less need to panic. But going through the stress of the wedding plans, late restless nights and meals being eaten on the run between appointments can play havoc on the face as the wedding approaches.

The one thing I notice when it comes to brides and mothers of the bride and groom is their skin condition when they come to have their makeup done the day of the wedding. Most people don't think of their skin and the impact it will have in the wedding photos.

As estheticians we try to give everybody that healthy glow, which is not always easy when the skin is dehydrated from all the elements. Putting makeup on skin that is not hydrated and healthy can add years to your appearance.

Dead skin will lift and makeup will look dull. Also with dry skin makeup will not adhere to the skin as well so that flawless look that we might achieve will diminish throughout the day. A facial should be booked about two months before the wedding to have blackheads removed and allow skin to calm down.

There is also plenty of time to correct facial problems such as acne, extreme dehydrated skin etc. Another facial should be booked two weeks before wedding to have dry skin removed and receive a hydrating mask.

I know that the bride is supposed to be the "belle of the ball" but having a facial should not be excluded from the rest of the bridal party since they have the right to look just as beautiful or handsome.

Men look in the mirror, smile and say "looks good to me" but they should take care of that weather beaten look. (Unless they are not going to be in the pictures...Ha Ha.)

These are just suggestions. It is not written in stone and everybody has their own opinion. But from someone who is about to be a mother of the bride and mother of the groom I will suggest to them to have their facials. A picture says a thousand words and we want it to say "beautiful"!
