The art of soup-tasting

The Tantramar Family Resource Centre held it's inaugural Art of Soup event on March 8 at the Sackville Curling Club. The event combined soup tasting with a silent auction of art donated by local students at Salem Elementary, Marshview Middle School and Tantramar High School.
With a wide variety of soups donated by local restaurants, the community members who attended were able to sample everything from the Bridge Street Cafe's Creamy Roasted Garlic Soup to the Olive Branch's Tomato Bread Soup to the Schnitzel House's Hungarian Goulash.
Also available were soups provided by community members for the Amateur Chef Cook-off. Norma Stewart's Mulligatawny Soup carried off first prize, with Margaret Ann Galbraith's curried lentil entry in second place.
It was also an opportunity for neighbours and friends to sit down together and enjoy a meal as a community.
The Tantramar Family Resource Centre aims to help build a stronger community through their programming in areas such as healthy living, literacy and early childhood education, and youth programming.
"This event is just one example of the ways the Tantramar Family Resource Centre has been working to help our community," says Tanya Hess, president of the board of directors.
"Though it was a fund-raising endeavor, we maintained our focus on community building in a successful way."
While the TFRC does not have a physical building in which to house their programs at this time, the committed volunteer board of directors are working toward raising funds to hire an executive director and eventually find a home.
