Monarch Road offers well-designed new homes.

So it was when I recently took a stroll around the relatively new Riverview neighbourhood of Monarch Road that I saw a lovely pheasant, and later a tiny flock of robins.

Monarch Road, which is the street just before Parkland Estates (Royal Court) off the Coverdale Road in West Riverview, is a lovely place for a stroll.

It's modern, well-designed homes seem to have attracted quite a few residents who have lived in the town for a few years in larger or older homes, and decided, with retirement approaching, to go for new homes with all the amenities.

While some of the homes are still under construction, you can see many others have been moved into and made into happy homes.

No doubt when the weather gets warmer and the ground gets drier, there will be a flurry of planting and paving and barbecuing.

If you have been loath to venture out this past winter because of its extreme ice and snow conditions, you can put all that behind you know and venture out for spring walks.

Besides being good for our legs and general physical well-being, a daily walk brings calmness to us. Jean Jacques Rousseau, in Confessions, said that:

"I can only mediate when I am walking. When I stop, I cease to think; my mind works only with my legs."

If you want your mind and legs to get a good workout this week, walk through the lovely Monarch Road neighbourhood.
